Off Leash Dog Training It Is Crucial That It Be Done In Private

When you want to do off leash dog training it is very important that you do not do it in public. You also need to factor in the level of your dogs obedience on a leash before you decide to take it off. We would all like to have our dogs be so well behaved that we could take them off their leash, but sometimes it is just not possible yet. Read on to get some guidance on off leash dog training.

Beginning on the assumption that your dog is well behaved when you have him or her on a leash, you can start your off leash dog training with simple dog training for dummies techniques, of sit and stay. Put your dog in a sitting position and take off the leash, tell your dog to stay and walk away sideways at first. If your dog stays than begin walking in a different direction. If your dog does not stay put the leash back on and try again. If your dog stays in the sitting positions with the leash on, than try the technique again. Something like this takes time and patience so do not give up too soon.

As you do the above exercise try to have a distraction, you need to know that your dog will behave when there are others around that will take their attention away from you. Do the same drill over and over until you are satisfied that your dog is listening to you.

Next you should practice walking with your dog and getting them to heel on command without the tug of a leash. Practice at fist when your dog is on a leash, allow them to get ahead of you, and then tell them to heel, your dog should return to your side. If this does not happen, than it is not the time to start off leash dog training. Only begin a new lesson when your dog is good at doing while on a leash.

You need to have a command that allows your dog to leave your side to go sniffing or do other doggie necessities. This helps to let your dog know that they are allowed to leave your side only by command, and you get to reinforce the heel command to get your dog to return to you. If this works for you and your dog on a leash than you can move on to off leash dog training for these commands.

These are just a few of the basic training techniques that you need to know before beginning off leash training for your dog. Remember never try off leash dog training in a public place, and start with the sit stay commands.
