Sit Stay Fetch – Discover Easy Ways To Teach Your Puppy These Commands
Some people think that dogs will sit stay fetch or do any other simple command that they are given. The problem is that people are the ones who think that these tasks are simple things that dogs just know how to do, but no one ever told the dogs that. Read on so you can learn how to teach your puppy, or even an older dog, a few basic instructions.
Sometimes it’s fun to watch new puppy parents kneeling in front of their new pup saying, sit, come on sit, oh please sit. Puppies do not know what the words sit stay fetch or what other words mean unless they are taught to know, that is part of dog training for dummies. The first thing you need to remember is that all dogs still have the basic instinct of the pack where one dog was always in charge. You need to be the one in charge and sit stay fetch will not be so hard..
When you are teaching your puppy to sit, you need to make eye contact with your puppy, if they are already sitting, get them to stand up, don’t be afraid to put your hands on their rump and hind legs and gently help them up. Say up as you are doing this. Now place your hand on his or her bottom and say sit while gently pressing down, you can even put one hand behind their back legs and push in to make them go into the sitting position. As soon as your dog is in the sitting position, praise them. Some people give treats but I use petting, scratching and verbal responses as rewards. Do this repeatedly for a few minutes about three times a day. It should not take more than a few days to get them sit stay fetch or anything else when you use consistency.
To teach your pup how to stay when you tell them to may be a bit more confusing considering they love to follow you around. Start small, have your dog sit, and while you are facing them, put your hand to their nose and say the word stay, take two steps backward. If they get up bring them back to the same spot and start over. Do not yell at them if they get it wrong but praise them when they get it right. Even if you only make it one step back and they stay, reward them with praise. Just keep doing this a few times a day every day, and they will learn it. Sit stay fetch are not that hard, once they know what the words mean.
Fetch is the hardest of sit stay fetch depending on what kind of dog you have, some dogs are naturally good at fetching others will never do it. The best thing to do in this case is throw their favorite ball and see if they bring it back if not you need to work on it. I found that having another dog that already knows how to fetch show them works great, just play with the other dog and praise them when they do it and your dog will want that praise too. Remember just because you know what sit stay fetch means doesn’t mean your dog does.
